Description
xBright chartreuse, lemon-scented foliage on a tidy, upright cone — a fast-growing pop of gold that brightens a doorway, patio, or sunny garden corner.
The Wilma Goldcrest Lemon Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa 'Goldcrest Wilma') is a soft-needled evergreen prized for its glowing golden-green foliage and crisp citrus fragrance when brushed or warmed by the sun. It grows quickly into a dense, narrow column — typically 3 to 5 ft. tall in a container and up to about 10 ft. in the ground, staying just 2 to 3 ft. wide. That slim, naturally conical habit makes it a standout where you want vertical color without sprawl: flanking an entry, anchoring a sunny border, or holding court in a decorative pot.
Why growers choose the Wilma Goldcrest Lemon Cypress
- Year-round gold. The bright lemon-lime foliage holds its color through every season, glowing warmest in full sun.
- Fragrant foliage. Brush against it or rub a sprig and it releases a clean, lemony evergreen scent — a favorite near patios, paths, and doorways.
- Narrow, space-saving habit. At just 2 to 3 ft. wide, it slips into tight beds, container groupings, and small-yard corners where a wider conifer won't fit.
- Fast to fill out. Its quick growth rate means you get that dense, columnar shape and color sooner rather than waiting years.
- Versatile and easy. Happy in the ground in zones 7 to 10 or in a pot you can move with the seasons, with little fuss once established in full sun.
Use it as a matched pair framing a front door, a vertical accent in a mixed border, a living centerpiece in a large container, or planted in a tidy row for a low, colorful screen along a patio or path.
