Description
xA narrow, silver-green column of native evergreen that screens like a wall while taking up almost no ground space.
Taylor Juniper (Juniperus virginiana 'Taylor') is a strikingly upright selection of our native Eastern red cedar, prized for its tight, fastigiate habit and soft silvery-green to blue-green foliage. It holds its dense, feathery texture top to bottom year-round and grows at a steady, moderate pace to a mature 15-20 ft. tall and 20-25 ft. wide, though it is typically kept far narrower in a hedge. Its tall, slender form makes it a natural choice for tight privacy screens, formal vertical accents, and windbreaks where a wide-spreading tree simply won't fit.
Why growers choose the Taylor Juniper
- Narrow, space-saving habit. Its tightly upright, column-like form delivers height and screening without sprawling into walkways, driveways, or property lines.
- Year-round evergreen cover. Dense silvery-green foliage stays full and colorful through every season, with no bare gaps in winter.
- Genuinely tough and deer-resistant. As a juniper, it shrugs off browsing deer far better than arborvitae, and once established it handles heat, drought, and poor soils with ease.
- Wide cold-hardiness. Reliably evergreen across zones 3-9, standing up to harsh winters and hot summers alike.
- Low maintenance. It naturally holds its slim shape, so it needs little to no pruning to look tidy.
Planted in a single row, Taylor Junipers form a quick, formal privacy hedge or vertical screen along a fence line or property edge. They also stand beautifully on their own as a vertical specimen, flanking an entry, or set in a windbreak row across an exposed lot.
