Rumex altissimus, commonly known as Pale Dock, is a tall native perennial recognized for its upright growth and pale green foliage. It naturally occurs in prairies, wet meadows, open woodlands, and along stream corridors, making it a versatile addition to native plantings and restoration projects.
This species serves as a larval host plant for copper butterflies and provides habitat and food for other wildlife. Pale Dockโs height and architectural form add structure to prairie mixes and meadow plantings, especially where soils range from moist to moderately dry.
Easy to establish and low maintenance once mature, Pale Dock thrives in full sun to partial shade and integrates well into diverse native plant communities.
