Description
xThe unmistakable narrow spire of the Mediterranean — a tall, pencil-thin evergreen column that reads as formal elegance in any landscape.
Italian Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is a fast-growing evergreen conifer prized for its strikingly upright, columnar habit and dense, soft-textured dark green foliage. It climbs to a dramatic 35-40 ft. tall while staying remarkably slim at 20-25 ft. across, giving you serious vertical presence without a wide, space-hungry footprint. Its sculptural, exclamation-point form makes it a signature choice for framing entrances, lining drives, and creating tall screens where ground space is tight.
Why growers choose the Italian Cypress
- Iconic vertical form. The tight, narrow column delivers instant Mediterranean and Tuscan-style architecture that few other plants can match.
- Fast height with a slim profile. A fast growth rate gets you tall screening and accent quickly, while the narrow spread keeps it tidy against walls, fences, and entries.
- Year-round evergreen. Dense dark green, scale-like foliage holds its color through every season, so the structure never disappears in winter.
- Sun-loving and heat-tolerant. Thrives in full sun and warm, dry conditions, making it well suited to Mediterranean and warm-climate gardens in zones 7-10.
- Low, clean maintenance. The naturally columnar shape needs little intervention to look polished, and established trees are notably drought-tolerant.
Use Italian Cypress as a stately specimen, in symmetrical pairs to flank a doorway or gate, or planted in a row to form a tall, narrow privacy screen or windbreak where a wider hedge simply will not fit.
