Description
xA graceful, clumping bamboo that delivers fast green privacy without the spreading nightmare runner bamboos are known for.
Fernleaf Multiplex Bamboo (Bambusa multiplex 'Fernleaf') is a tight-clumping evergreen bamboo prized for its delicate, fern-like foliage and upright, narrow form. Slender canes rise quickly to a mature height of 10 to 15 ft. while the clump stays a tidy 2 to 4 ft. wide, draped in soft, feathery sprays of small leaves that arch outward like fine green plumes. Because it is a true clumper, it expands slowly outward from a central base instead of sending invasive rhizomes across your yard, making it one of the most reliable bamboos for a fast, year-round screen in a defined space.
Why growers choose the Fernleaf Multiplex
- Clumping, not running. It stays in a neat, expanding clump rather than spreading underground, so you get bamboo privacy without the containment headaches and root barriers running types demand.
- Fast vertical screen. Quick growth and a 10 to 15 ft. mature height fill in privacy gaps, soften fences, and block sightlines in just a few seasons.
- Narrow footprint. At only 2 to 4 ft. wide, it slips into tight side yards, along property lines, and into spaces where a tree would never fit.
- Fine, fern-like texture. The signature small, lacy leaves give it a softer, more ornamental look than coarse, large-leaved bamboos.
- Evergreen and adaptable. It holds its foliage year-round in zones 7 to 10 and takes full to part sun, working in the ground or in a large container.
Set a single clump as a living accent near a patio, or plant several in a row to build a soft, feathery privacy screen or windbreak along a fence line or property boundary. In colder regions it also makes a striking container specimen that can be moved to shelter in winter.
