Description
xA compact reblooming bigleaf hydrangea whose mophead blooms open in glowing cherry-red and deepen through the season for color from spring all the way to fall.
Cherry-Go-Round® (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hokomaburlac') is a dwarf reblooming mophead that earns its place in tight spaces. The rounded flower heads emerge a clear cherry-red and shift to richer wine and rose tones as they age, set against glossy deep-green leaves on a tidy, well-branched habit. Because it flowers on both old and new wood, you get the classic early-summer flush followed by fresh blooms right through the warm months. At just 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, it stays neat without constant shearing and works as readily in a container as it does in the ground. And like all bigleaf hydrangeas, its bloom color responds to soil pH, so you can lean the reds toward purple in acidic soil.
Why growers choose the Cherry-Go-Round® hydrangea
- True rebloomer. Flowers on old and new wood, so a missed pruning or a late frost on the buds won't cost you the whole season of color.
- Standout color. Mophead blooms open cherry-red and mature through wine and rose, giving a single shrub an evolving palette from spring to fall.
- Compact, container-ready habit. A naturally dwarf 2-to-3-foot mound fits small beds, foundations, and patio pots with little pruning.
- Reliably cold-hardy. Rated for zones 5 through 9, so it returns year after year across a wide swath of the country.
- Long, glossy good looks. Lush deep-green foliage frames the blooms all season and makes a clean backdrop even between flushes.
Use it as a low foundation planting, a soft front-of-border accent, a repeated rhythm along a walkway, or a single specimen in a glazed pot by the door. It is just as at home in a cutting garden, where the long-lasting mopheads hold up beautifully in arrangements.
