Boehmeria cylindrica, commonly known as Smallspike False Nettle, is a versatile native perennial found in wetlands, floodplains, stream banks, and moist woodlands across North America. Despite its name, this plant does not sting, making it a safe and valuable addition to wildlife-friendly landscapes.
This species is an important larval host plant for butterflies such as the Red Admiral and Question Mark, while also providing cover and food for other wildlife. Its upright growth and textured foliage make it a great choice for rain gardens, restoration projects, and naturalized plantings.
Smallspike False Nettle prefers moist to wet soils and grows well in full sun to partial shade, thriving where many other plants struggle.
